Vulnerability Management

You cannot fix everything at once — but you can fix what matters first. Continuous discovery, risk-based prioritisation and verified remediation.

What is vulnerability management?

Vulnerability management is the continuous process of discovering, prioritising, remediating and verifying weaknesses across your estate: servers, endpoints, network devices, cloud workloads, containers and applications. It is a lifecycle programme, not an annual scan.

The hard problem is not finding vulnerabilities — scanners find thousands. The hard problem is knowing which ones actually matter and driving them to closure. Modern programmes prioritise by exploitability, exposure and business criticality, then verify that remediation actually happened.

Why it matters

Why exposure programmes fail without prioritisation

A backlog nobody trusts is a backlog nobody works.

Noise obscures risk

Unfiltered scanner output overwhelms teams. Risk-based prioritisation surfaces the exploitable minority that requires action.

Attackers exploit what is reachable

Internet-facing, exploited-in-the-wild vulnerabilities deserve different urgency than internal, theoretical ones.

Unverified remediation is fiction

Tickets close without patches applied. Verification re-scans confirm the exposure is genuinely gone.

How it works

The vulnerability lifecycle

A continuous cycle, executed with defined ownership at every stage.

  1. 01

    Discover

Maintain a live inventory of assets — cloud, on-premise, containers and applications.

  2. 02

    Identify

Scan and assess for vulnerabilities, misconfigurations and missing controls.

  3. 03

    Prioritise

Rank by exploitability, attack path, business criticality and threat intelligence.

  4. 04

    Validate

Confirm which findings are genuinely exploitable in your context.

  5. 05

    Remediate

Route findings to owners with clear SLAs, compensating controls where patching is delayed.

  6. 06

    Verify

Re-test to confirm closure, and measure programme performance over time.

In practice

Vulnerability management use cases

Exposure reduction programme

Stand up a continuous, measurable vulnerability management capability from scratch.

Patch management support

Feed accurate, prioritised findings into patch and change processes.

Merger and acquisition due diligence

Rapidly assess the exposure of an acquired environment.

Compliance-driven scanning

Satisfy recurring assessment requirements with verifiable evidence.

Outcomes

Benefits

  • Exposure reduction measured, not assumed
  • Remediation focused on what attackers can actually exploit
  • Clear ownership with SLAs and exception governance
  • Continuous discovery replacing point-in-time scans
  • Evidence for compliance and board reporting
FAQ

Vulnerability Management — frequently asked questions

Vulnerability management is the continuous process of discovering, prioritising, remediating and verifying security weaknesses across an organisation’s assets. It differs from one-off vulnerability assessment by operating as an ongoing lifecycle with ownership, SLAs and verification.
